Crash course: Basics of Biostatstics

This course conveys the most important basic knowledge for the analysis of everyday laboratory data.
First, the characteristics of datasets and the the prerequisites and requirements of statistical methods
are discussed to enable the correct selection of strategies

  • The course focuses mainly on:
  • Strategies for statistical data analysis
  • Descriptive statistics
  • Transformation & normalization
  • Calculation of confidence intervals
  • Hypothesis testing (parametric & non-parametric), such as:
    • testing for outliers, normal distribution and homogeneity of variance
    • t-tests and Mann-Whitney U / Wilcoxon
    • analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Kruskal-Wallis / Friedmann test
    • with post-hoc tests
  • Regression analysis (linear and non-linear)
  • Special topics: e.g., analysis of correlation, contingency and survival (Kaplan-Meier)

No special previous knowledge is required for this course.

Duration: 1 day (beginning: 8:30 a.m. - end: 3:30 p.m.)

Course fee: € 395,- (plus 19% VAT) incl. work materials, course documentation, confirmation of participation including detailed course contents.

Optional short examination: On demand, a short exam can be taken subsequently to the course. The examination fee is € 35,00 (plus 19% VAT) and is not included in the participation fee.

The examination will be held after the end of the course (duration approx. 20 minutes). Registration for the examination is possible together with booking the course or also during the course.
